SPECIALIZED SUCCESS

Success. What does that word mean to you? How do we achieve success? Well if you have ever studied the world famous success book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill you will know that one of the large factors contributing to any individuals success is that of "specialized knowledge".

I broke it down and to me it means this : Specialized knowledge isn't mass amounts of useless information, it's learning what you need to know, and knowing who to go to if you need any of that less specialized information. It is the difference between educating yourself for the sake of getting and "education" and educating yourself based on a pre determined plan you already have an end goal set up to achieve.

I have set an end goal, and in taking this to the point night course about the music industry I have found the perfect tool to obtain the specialized knowledge that I need to guide me. No more, no less. Simple.

Henry Ford had a 6th grade education, Edison, 6 months.

If anyone is interested in what I am learning in music class here is a summary of the first class I took and how it effected me

Do a reality check and a self assessment - Ask how good you really are, Do you need vocal lessons? Do you need a makeover? Do you need guitar lessons? What makes you think your so special? Get perspective on yourself. Figure out why anyone would care.

I am taking vocal lessons and they are doing wonders, if anyone wants I can recommend an amazing teacher! I also practise my guitar daily, practise makes perfect and even a half hour a day will do wonders and remind you of your goals.

Define your act and your identity- What is your image, does it correlate with your music? What is your music like? Do you have a brand? Do you have a website? Do you have business cards. Treat yourself like a business, your image and brand will reflect your professionalism and dedication. It will also help define your demographic and fan base. When someone says KISS the painted faces and rock and roll automatically come to mind.

Elle Ectric's image shows in this blog, so I ran with it. I have re=done my business cards and begun the focus towards total re branding (design school pays off). Re-doing my website with a creative layout as well as highlighting my music, talents and services is on the horizon.

Record Labels - Be aware that some labels are looking for the full package, but some are looking for a new raw talent that they can develop. Some labels want to represent you and get you gigs/radio play ect, but some want to pay you to create an album and keep your profits from said album. Be educated, do your research and know that no two labels, managers or producers are the same, they are all very different.

A label is not my main goal at this time, at all. Although it once was a target I wanted to hit.

Creating something special - The industry is looking for entertainers, not just a good voice you need to have something special about you – Gene Simmons created a reality show where a bunch of kids made a band. The kids all had to vote in who would be the lead singer and naturally they chose the best singer in the group. Gene told them they were wrong and their choice was not to be the lead singer in the band - Instead it was going to be the weird kid in the corner who was an okay singer, but an amazing performer. Labels are thinking internationally not just locally, you have to stand out to get industry interest. It has to be the full package - the secret? Connect with the audience.

I found this inspiring and hope to never forget it - it's a whole other level and way of thinking of performing. When I sing with my vocal teacher and I am enjoying a moment with myself she tells me to snap out of it an stop acting selfish, you don't sing for yourself, you sing for your audience, they want to be in the moment too.

Performance tricks - Think outside the song and dance, think about the lighting, think about the in between song banter, think about the atmosphere and special effects, think about the audience connection. These are all necessary if you want to stand out.

I am putting this in effect for my next show on the 16th.

The Big MAC – MOTIVATION – ATTITUDE – COMMITMENT. 3 key qualities a person has to have, more so than their talent/money/connections to be successful. Your motivation has to be for the music and the audience. If it's for the money or fame it will be sensed. This is either there, or it isn't. You also have to show humility, appreciation ( for fans), respect for those who help you in any way and commitment in your past present and for your future.

That's all for now, I have class again tonight and I am right pumped. Taking notes like a mad woman in the back of the auditorium makes me feel like a pretty big nerd, in the coolest way ever.

I am also getting pumped for my show at the Tap House in West Van on the 16th of February. I am going to do my best to apply all the lessons learned every class to my career after each class.

I have decided that if you wish to attain something you have to visualize it. I created a dream board of images that inspire me and that I someday will to attain. Here are a couple of these images. Behind the images I create a little story, the girl in white is me traveling around europe and africa, the girl on stage is me playing a show. And the shoes. Well they are just dope.

Another inspiration I have recently found is the musician Lana Del Rey. Her eerie sound, creative lyrics and unique look really got me. Here is my version of her song Video Games.

THE INDUSTRY

For many careers out there there is a set path to get from point A to point B. It usually goes something like this...

You A. decide on what you want to be. B Take X. amount of schooling to get to point Y where you intern for Q amount of years until you get to Z and before you know it your through the alphabet and back, otherwise known as your intended destination.

We'll I think it's pretty clear from that last paragraph I was never dreaming of being a writer, or a mathimatition...I just wanted to use a Q without a U tagging along.

Anyways, I chose a slightly less traditional path, a journey through the music industry.

The music industry is a booming industry full of many amazing opportunities, I wanted to be one of the better known members of the music industry, an artist. A singing, recording, songwriting, telecaster playing artist.

That's all fine and dandy until you start making music and look around and go.. So I can write and play, but how do I find a band, how do I network, where can I meet Jay-Z, who do I talk to to get radio play.

I was just beginning to ask myself those questions when the universe decided to help me out and send me an answer. Thanks universe!

I was browsing through my account on reverberation today and I noticed I had a new fan. The fan's name was " Your Career in the Music Industry " I was intrigued and check out this "fan". We'll it turns out this wasn't a fan at all! It was a description on a course that is 12 weeks, 3 hours one evening that (hopefully) has all the answers to all of those questions I was just beginning to ask.

I literally jumped up and called, who knew I would ever get so excited about school. Your welcome Mom and Dad.

Tattoos have come a long way.

Once frowned upon and only seen on sailors and outlaws,

tattoos are now being admired and idolized.

They are on TV shows, documentaries, celebrities bodies and the inspiration for many styles of mainstream art today.

I have incorporated many things into these two tats, the birds representing freedom, uniqueness and song... the branches were created using text. The text holds a secret message

It states this...

"If you walk with fear, fear will follow you"

Even if you don't know it, fear dominates the majority of everyones decisions, and is the main reason people are held back.

Fear of success, fear of poverty, fear of loss of love, fear of old age, fear of criticism, fear of being let down... the list goes on and on.

I want to always remember to not let fear stand in my way, this helps me do just that

This poem was written by a Canadian poet who writes his short poems in english, french and italian. One poem, three languages, and all of them rhyme. I thought this was so romantic and could not get it out of my head.

I have other tattoos as well, but these three are my favourite.

I am a dreamer

I am constantly having the strangest dreams. I once dreamed that I went to a party and someone slipped me a tab of acid. So for the rest of my dream, I was on an acid trip. I have never done acid, but I swear it was an accurate guess as I woke up with my heart beating out of control.

Last night I had the strangest dream. Sure it is not uncommon for me to dream about playing music, or about flying ( I know I know I'm 5) but last night I dreamed that I was given this crazy broken guitar to play on, and when I played it right I could fly. Oh yah, and there were bad guys. Anyways I wrote a song about it all. Enjoy

TATTOOS, BABES AND ANTLERS

Living downtown is a total dream for me because there is random art around every corner.

The other night after a late night beach stroll in English Bay with my guy Bobby we were stoked to see that the Kimprints art store was open late, naturally and in downtown fashion we decided to end our late night beach date with a late night art browse, so we went inside.

I had been looking for a large piece of art for my new apartment for a while, so when I saw this beautiful piece in a giant 4' by 4' print I knew I had found what I was looking for ... Drool.

A hot pirate chick with an eye patch,tattoos and pirate ships for shoulder pads... does it get any cooler than that!? The piece was an $800 print and I was very tempted to buy, so I returned a few days later only to find it had been sold an hour before! I was surprised how bummed I was, so I probed the owner for information and found out it was by a female artist based out of San Fran named Charmaine Olivia. I was so excited when he told me they could order in any of her prints, so I eagerly went home check out more of her work.

For those of you who don't already know, some of my all time favourite design aspects are Tattoos, Pirate Ships, antlers, feathers and skulls. This explains why when I went home that night to check out the rest of her work. I was totally pumped on this artist.

For over a year now I have been working with SocialShopper, a Vancouver website connecting consumers with businesses they are sure to love. This company loves to give back and take part in society, this is why they decided to make their one year anniversary party a fundraiser for breast cancer research and awareness. ( All proceeds were donated to the run for the cure the next day)

I had a fabulous time aboard the boat, fully loaded with two bars ( yes), a latin funk dancer (fun!) and a magician!! (my favourite part). Musician boyfriend and I also had our part in participating in this party, by providing them with some music as our contribution to the event.

All aboard! The Magic Charter

October is a great month, for one it is dedicated to breast cancer awareness, a very important cause since 1 out of every 4 woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her life. All the funds raised at this Yacht cruise fundraiser were donated to the Run for the Cure that took place the next day :)

October is also rad because it is Rocktober! So rock and roll everyone.

WEST END GIRLS

I have finally made the move to the West End and have been lucky enough to find myself an amazing apartment right next door to Stanley Park. I have made many furry little friends due to this move and enjoy naming the racoons and skunks as they stroll out of the park nightly.

I took this opportunity to clarify my life, and my living. Simplicity and organization is key in my new life by the park and it makes things Oh So Swell - you can quote me on that

I have taken a few quick pics of my new room, this time around, my elle ectric fender telecaster guitar was the main focus, as I covered it in studs earlier in the year and decided it needed some attention.

REIGNCITY WRAP

Hats off and Hands together for the guys at Reign City who were all smiles when they were able to air the trailer for their Vancouver based reality/drama

"Reign City the Series"

The 10 minute trailor was a big hit, with all original score from the Music department of Reign City.

Not only are these guys talented on the film side of things, they have also been growing their name in the music department by teaming up with several local Vancouver artists!

I happen to be one of those lucky Reign City reps, and had the chance to do a couple of songs at the party along with 3 other members of the Enterprise. Fizal Starz, Yog - E and Heatwave.

Oh PS did I mention it's my Birthday on Saturday? No? How could I forget!, Well the guys from the crew sure didn't as they surprised me with this giant ice cream cake a week early!! Aw guys!!

Sigh, would you look at that colour scheme!! For those of you just joining me in the blog world you should probably know that I Love bold and beautiful colours, and that I am a compulsive re-decorator. Any excuse, I'll take it, a new dish set, a new candle, anything can prompt me to re-decorate, so that is why it won't surprise you to lean that a change in seasons demands for a change of decor!

This year I was inspired, yes, call me crazy ( go ahead do it) but I based my entire decor this summer around one thing. The Iris.

For decorating their unique shape makes them perfect for the modern home, and their colour combination is fully satisfying and and I love their long stems.

Relationships, the most fascinating form of human interaction.

There are many different kind of relationships, casual, intimate, hurtful or loving.

Everyone has a different opinion of an ideal relationship. Different standards, morals and beliefs. These rules however, seem to change based on the level or relationship. So what happens when you get to the most intimate level, the level where everything is shared, nothing is held back and hearts are on the line. A relationship that involves love. What are the rules then?

Well here are my rules, regardless of past or present events they stay the same.

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE

Today I decided to look at something from another perspective. My art.

Although finished art is usually admired from afar, I decided to look up close and see what small details helped in creating the big picture.

What I found was rather ironic.

Although every piece of mine looks completely different and unique from afar, if you take the time to admire the details work, you can see that I do in fact have a consistent "style",

God and the Devil are in the details.

MUSIC VIDEO WHAT!

I filmed my first music video with production company ReignCity Ent last weekend.

It was a cool concept and collaboration as the company consists of two parts, Music, and Media.

"Come and Play" , written by me, beat and production by B Morales, was recorded with in their permanent studio at Greenhouse Studios.

The song will be used in the TV series ReigncityTV , a show in which I play a lead roll as Kaja Justice

But I digress...

Let me ask you this...

Am I wrong for thinking a fur vest is appropriate attire for a Music Video?

MOBELY UPLOADED EVERYDAY ART

GOD I LOVE A GOOD MOBILE UPLOAD

If you have an artistic eye, then you have the pleasure of experiencing beautiful art everyday. Be it man made or natural. Meant to be art or just some junk on the side of the road. Permanent or temporary, you get to see what others don't.

I seem to have a love of finding these everyday treasures, and snapping a quick picture of them with my blackberry camera.

(I love the way the blue walls, and thick black mirror contrasts with my red and rhinestones)

Just today I was looking through my phone and realized that the content of my camera was probably not like that of too many young woman my age. Sure there are lots of fun pictures I took at the club, or of my cat doing something stupid but adorable, but the vast quantity of random artsy things was what really stuck out.

I thought, if you read my blog you may perhaps have some sort of appreciation for these random artsy things that are not visible to the untrained eye, so here they are. (All mobile uploads)

Ah Sring has sprung (just about anyways) and on the first true sunny day of the season I thought I would let you in for a look at what is going on on the inside of the sunshine filled bliss. Themes of the season? Flowers of all kinds, creating music and art,finding new scents to fill the air, white wine with lunch and lots, and lots, of sunshine time.

On the living room table, hyacinths. These fun flowers are the best smelling in the garden. and so pretty too!

Tulips change every day, these buds are opening fast, they would brighten anyones day

Art and creating are making a comeback this spring, I am entering a new stage in my art and am going with it in hopes of creating a collection

It is important to have scents in the kitchen, this vanilla and sandalwood diffuser is doing wonders, I have used a flower sifter as an antique looking vase and nothing says spring like avocados.

Allow me to introduce you to the "bromielia" an exotic plant that lasts up to 6 months, interesting isn't it. I brought in warm and cool hughes on the table by running runners length and width.

Into the bedroom we go, I have decorated the walls with rich bronze pieces, such as old frames, and mirrored keys. The photographs are from a fashion magazine, carnival.

Tulips by the bed, and antique table, frame and bottle found at the dump used for the flowers, one persons garbage...

The pride and joy of my patio, hiding behind sheer curtains, my clamatis, that blooms beautiful white aromatic flowers 3 times a year. See you there.

OPEN ROAD

Nothing beats the feeling you get when you go for a good long drive. Windows down, music blaring, sun in your face; the best things in life are free. (Minus the cost of gas that your burning through of course)

I have recently teamed up in the studio with the Reigncity Enterprise. That consists of producers and beat makers B. Morales and Duane, along with filmmaker and writer Rikk.

B sends beats my way, I write the melodies and lyrics and in the studio we go to lay it all down.

When I first heard this beat I was driving on one of those beautiful days, and the song wrote itself.

Sean attended the Pacific Audio Visual Institute and studied the Business of Film and Music!

In this program you have to learn all the in's, out's and in betweens of the music industry. So much that you literally have to read a Music Encyclopedia.

I'm not kidding people, this thing is huge, 448 pages of huge, and 448 pages of awesomeness.

Ok Ok it's called the billboard illustrated encyclopedia of music.

Printed in Italy in 2003 ooh lala!

everything from pop and rock, to ragtime and folk, to gospel and electronic!

his book is like an adventure so its a good thing they give you a guide.

The book is very clearly organized. Styles of music are introduced and categorized, there are quotes from artist (probably my favourite part), a bar of music to give you a taste of each style and album covers or photographs.

There a bountiful index, a guide of different instruments and their origins, biographies on the authors and even a page that teaches you how to read music!

Rock and Roll!

*note Music stuff is super interesting. I am currently reading the Marilyn Manson Auto biography " Long hard road out of hell" He is a great writer and tells all honestly and objectively. It is quite a read.

Happy Tuesday everybody. As I rush out the door to go for my first snowboard session of the year I decided to do a quick tidy of my apartment and found myself growing quite fond of my new christmas acquisitions. I would like to congratulate you all this year (by you all I mean only and specifically those of you who bought me gifts) on knowing my taste quite perfectly and making me very happy in doing so.

Everyone enjoys a good event every now and then. Getting all dolled up, refreshing on your mingling skills and perhaps even eating some miniature food? Throw in a fashion show, a DJ, and a 50/50 draw and you have yourself a bonafied event!

This event took place at the regency scion dealership to "welcome the new scion vehicle to the family" Lucky car, it gets it's own party!

Well the car wasn't the only lucky one, I lucked out too when they asked me to play at the event.

This is my roady/sound technician... ok, he's also my dad.

This holiday season what will you do to stay warm? You probably have a warm cozy fire, many sweaters, ( some up them ugly with reindeer and sequins I do hope). You will have a fab time sipping hot rum and eggnogs, baking and roasting chestnuts. But what about those of us who don't have a fire, Christmas is cold, very very cold. So think of that this season when you are in the giving festive mood.

GRAPHIC DESIGN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

Well they say when it rains it pours, and this city is now once again filled with opportunities for designers and artists. I was thrilled when I was asked to sing and play at the regency scion event this Month on the 25th, EVENT DETAILS

Even better news, I found out this event was like an onion ( many layers) I didn't hesitate to embrace them all.

Along with a fashion show, car wash, great food, a dj and gift giveaway there is also a contest for the best graphic design. The winner would be given a money for design school, so I thought, I am a graphic designer, I want to go back to school
so I can work in a cool office like the one on the devil wears prada and drink coffee from a cup I made at bella ceramica, count me in!

It all started when great friend Olivia aka fellow blogger stylestruck and I were sitting in el furniture wearhouse eating some yam fries and discussing what to be for halloween.

We wanted to be something original, something fun and not your typical cliche costume. We were in the middle of brainstorming while I was admiring the decor in the bar. El furniture is a skater bar, the walls are covered with stickers, graphiti and fridges (yes fridges.) I was just entranced with how great this all looked when it dawned on me.

I have had a week of lessons this week, I don't know why but it seemed that everyone wanted to share their wisdom with me, mainly complete strangers. I wish every week was like this because I would be infinitely more wise, but people tend to keep their lessons to themselves.

I love when people share what they have learned, other peoples lessons are priceless and cannot be duplicated. If you see me walking down the street, stop me, tell me what you know. I promise I will listen.

I have recently started working for a new company called SocialShopper, we feature Vancouver restaurants, spas, events and fun things to do in Vancouver for discounted prices to a mass internet market to give our economy a kick start. A new company we are going to be featuring is called guitar club, it is group guitar lesson (5-10 per class) in beautiful Kitsalino for a discounted price (but its still a secret). I digress, the owner and creator of this company, Bobby from Rattlesnake Vendetta, has asked me to help him come up with a logo and branding for this super fun guitar class... we went over themes and ideas, and voila! IPO A GOGO

This summer was a grand one, I had plenty of time to paint on my patio, play music with new friends, and record music with old friends ; however I think my greatest acheivment and joy of all was getting to play at the International Pop Overthrow "IPO" festival this August.

The IPO is a pop music festival that has been held for the past twelve years in 12 different cities! Each IPO features between 25-180 of the best pop bands from around the world. Everyone from the bands to the spectators has a wonderful time. And that we did!

I so excited to participate in this festival because the idea of a traveling festival is super rad, and the idea of people from all over the world participating rocks, but also because the IPO has received press in several noteworthy papers in each city the festival is held. This time around I had a great chat with the writer from a magazine from England, a local radio show and not to mention my own write up in the IPO magazine that circulates the globe! HEY CANADA!

The other day while listening to my favorite rock station, ROCK 101 I heard they were putting on a contest, the "Vancouver's Hottest Anthem Singer Contest" to be exact. The prizes were were an Ipad, 500$ for beauty and spa services and to sing the national anthem at the BC Lions Game. I figured, hey, I can sing, and I'm pretty easy on the eyes, so why not give it a try!

A few days after my first audition I received a call saying I was in the top ten!!

At the call back audition I got to meet all the cool rock 101 ratio vj's, here are some pics!

Isn't in interesting how things just sometimes happen? Sometimes things fall into place with the grace and lack of effort that they would in a fairy tale.

Sometimes...

While practicing my songs for my upcoming show (yes I have an upcoming show did I forget to mention! It's wednesday the 25th of August at the railway club and yes you are invited) I just started playing with a few chords, I decided to record myself playing them and see what happened.

This video is me writing a song as I go, I had no idea what the song would be about or what the chord progressions would be. I surprised myself with lyrics the whole way through.

The result?

Grace.

Business is Booming in Gastown as a new age studio is soon to be opening for buisness.

This up and coming mecca for the artistic will be called MODUS, meaning method in greek.

Although the final details may not be announced due to the "suspense factor" what I can say about the subject is that this studio will be an original mixture of gallery/ photography studios/ professional branding and graphic design; all in the heart of the brick streets of Gastown.

I have been working with the creators on creating the perfect logo. It needs to speak to many different people, not say too much, but not say too little. Here are some of the logo design and branding ideas I have come up with for the company. Comments and critique would be appreciated!

Okay everyone, the moment you have all been waiting for......

The first Reigncity songs!

As you may recall I told you a couple posts ago that I was now working with Reigncity Enterprises to help them create music for their upcoming webisode, "Reigncity the Series". The boys in the studio make the beats, send a bunch of them to me along with the ideas that they want the songs to be about, and I get to writing and recording.

"COME AND PLAY"

The idea behind this track was to create a song that was sensual from a woman's perspective. They said, she wants to have sex with him, so hint around that. I think any guy would get the hint.

"DIRTY POLITICS"

This song pretty much describes the premiss for the show, it tells you what we are all about, and how we roll.

ITS REIGNING IN THIS CITY

Elle-ectric has teamed up with Reign City Enterprises!

Reign City Enterprises is a Vancouver based company that makes their own beats, produces music for themselves and for others, and produces their own independent webisode currently filming in Vancouver.

I originally started working with Reign City through my acting career, filming for the webisode "Reigncity the Series"; however, after I shared my talent for songwriting with the company one thing lead to another and I began to write music for the webisode. All new music for the all new show. I wrote the song "Dirty Politics" going outside my usual folk sound and experimenting with R&B and hip hop using the beats they sent me to work with.

As time progressed they offered to record my music for the writing and acting I had been doing for them. And the project begins. I have now signed on for a ride, writing the soundtrack for Reigncity the Series as well as recording all the original music I want. Gotta love Van City and Reign City Enterprises.

In a city so full of opportunity any musician has a chance to shine.... but is it my turn yet?!

Vancouver is home to hundreds and hundreds of talented musicians, solo artists, bands and cover bands. Thanks to the booming city and its admirable interest in indy bands and strange new sounds it keeps everyone going and trying and creating. Thats something I love about Vancouver and something I really wish I did more of. See local bands. So many venues here have live entertainment nightly, I'm not talking about the commodore or venue that house the big wigs, I'm saying go anywhere on main street and you are bound to find some abstract musician or another. And isn't that were all the big wigs started anyways?

So thats half the fun, finding new talent, new sounds and new songs. and based on my experience through entering musical competitions such as the peak performance contest and supernova seeds, there is no shortage of it out there.

Yes were all trying to make it in an honest way, but why is music is such a coveted career you ask? Well I'll tell you, it's becuase everyone wants to do something in their lives that causes them to be remembered, or that helps someone through something or that truly makes a difference. Everyone wants to do something that is new and changes the way people look at things, and if you put your life in a song, you live on.

I think one of the keys to creativity is having an inspiring place to create in.

The sun really gets me going. I always feel like painting or writing a song when the sun is shining down.

In the summer time when the weather is fine, It is for that reason, that my special place, is on my patio!

Gossip Girl..

In being artistic I do try and live philosophically. I try and learn from life experiences and share them with all of you, here is one lesson we should all learn....

It is a tricky balance between caring and sharing, truth and tall tales and reality and rumors.

A juicy secret can be uber hard to keep, and the water-cooler goss is so hard to pass up, however when you begin telling stories about your friends and acquaintances, it sets off a chain reaction you may not be aware of. Sure it is potentially hurtful to the subject, yes it could hypothetically bring you bad karma, but what so many don't realize, is trash talking others, they are making for some good garbage against themselves.

"IF SHE IS SAYING THAT ABOUT HER FRIEND TO ME, WHAT IS SHE SAYING ABOUT ME TO HER FRIEND?"

Thats right gossip girls, the jig is up!

A gossip girl is harmful to others, and to herself. Gossip girls most always deserve what they have coming to them, and they most always get it. Note that your standard gossip girl is low on true friends and shares her juicy secrets with mere acquaintances... bad move GG

Here is a great way to avoid the Goss!

Hear No Evil

If a GG tries to tell you about the latest dirty, give her the talk to the hand girls that shuts GGs up real fast.

See No evil,

if something juicy goes down around you, perhaps you should simply avert your gaze, the temptation to goss could be too hard later

Speak No Evil

The biggest one of all, don't become a GG and spread the word, it will only get you in to trouble, and if a GG is to unload her dramaload on you, don't react and repeat, put it in the vault, that is so much more classy.

Whenever I walk the West Vancouver seawall I seem to always be thinking about the future. It could be the fresh air, good company and venti latte that always accessorize this walk with nature; however, whatever the factors may be, walking the sea wall never fails to bring me and optimistic feeling. On the seawall you can see far and wide, the sky always seems bigger over the ocean and my mind always fast forwards into what might one day be.

I simply adore Carlo Toselli's poems. He is a little known doctor turned poet who only started writing in the last 3 years of his life. The reason I can't get enough of his poetry is because he chose to write short to the point poems that illustrated his life. In reading his poems you feel your senses are heightened, as he speaks of the face of a flower or the sadness in snow. Life becomes a little more clear.

In reading Carlo's simple yet complex poems I was inspired to write my own magic. I am going to write a poem a day, there is no shortness of subjects in this wide wide world, and I do see the beauty in the mundane, so I think it will be a very appropriate project for me, I hope you enjoy.

This quote was written by a Canadian poet who writes his short poems in english, french and italian. One poem, three languages, and all of them rhyme. I thought this was so romantic and could not get it out of my head.

My best friend Sarah and I wanted to get tattoos together, we wanted them to represent our friendship that has now lasted for over a decade.

This Japanese symbol is the second half of the two character word loyalty. Sarah is Loy, I am Alty. This symbol also means middle, balance and heart.

My very first tattoo. I got this tattoo when I was in grade 10. I wanted a tattoo and knew that one thing that I would always be passionate about would never regret putting on my body was a symbol that represented music.

PURPLE POST

My Mother used to be, (still is and always will be at heart) a children's entertainer. At one point in her career she wrote a song called the purple song. This song was about how much she like purple and how it was her favorite hue.

What I'm getting at is that she was inspired by a color. I am often inspired by colors also, and there is a science behind how they make us feel. I feel that purple is a rather versatile color because it can be wild and outrageous in violet, or beautiful soft and tranquil in lavender.

From raw to recorded, if it were up to me and my wallet, every song I have written would have its day in the studio. Unfortunately I can only record one at a time, and it was time for some June Baby

I did this recording with family friend Scott Fletcher, he was excited about the energy of the song and asked me if he could help produce it. Scott has a similar taste in music to me so of course I said,

"Let's do it!"

DOOR NUMBER THREE

This weekend I went to the Vancouver Art Gallery and was granted the opportunity to stand in awe while looking at some of the displays. Some were gory and abstract, some humorous and others , inspired and twisted. The best part about these displays comes in the form of a small little white card, usually to the top right of the body of art. The artists explanation. The thing I love most about the artists explanation is the fact that all of these celebrated artist usually have a long, deep and heavily thought over summary for their work. These art pieces are worthy of our appreciation, not only because of the time and effort the artist put into the physical body or art; but for the infinite value of the intangible idea, meaning, concept or emotion that lays buried beneath it all.

The Beautiful Mind of a Child, Thanks to Tigerlilly

I was thinking the other day, how many people have amazing talents, and let them go to waste or worse yet, throw them away.

When you are a child everyone takes part joyfully in painting, playing and imagining. Imagining things that may not be possible or realistic, but in the time of your innocent youth, seem perfectly reasonable, and exciting.

I was thinking the other day how sad it was how so many of us lose our imagination as we grow up and grow old. How we trade in our imaginations and creative minds for minds changed and moulded by practicality, and rationality.

Tigerlilly to me is that amazing piece of your mind that allows you to imagine, some keep it, some don't.

Beauty is wild when its orininality

Danger is mild, when the result is your free

This is a bitter sweet post, it was me using my creative outlet, songwriting, to accept and embrace the death of my 16 year old dog buddy hester walker.

I picked out Buddy when I was 6 years old (to my parents horror) We happened to be out our way out to maple ridge to look at new born pure bread boarder collies, but just for kicks, we decided to first stop at the surrey SPCA, just for a quick peek. Well we all knew in the back of our minds that we couldn't leave without a dog, and Buddy was the one who I fell instantly in love with.

This song is not just about me and buddy thought, it is about loss, losing something or someone close to you, and the promise that even though there were bad times, and the end is a hard, you will never forget the good, the love and the many beginnings.

Hey everyone, I thought I would tickle your visual fancies today by sharing some of my original graphic creations and some of the rad free websites that have helped me out along the way!

this is a concoction I made using images I liked off the internet, I decided that I wanted my computer to have a name. Find similar images at NOTCOT.ORG

of course you recognize this image, I took it using my favorite lime green lips MUAH!! and layering a sexy splat behind it. the large font is one of my favorites and I use it often for bold images. Find tons of great free fonts at www.DAFONT.com

I thought it was time I had an image with me and my new blogger/sudo name. This was all done using layering techniques and typography

My first album cover, my side of the fence, I made the dots using simple layering that you can use in illustrator or photoshop. I love these colors, and birds.

A make up brand I "invented" and branded, I decided PYT (pretty young thing) would be a sexy name for a make up line, and I love the splotchy logo and wild colors

AN ARTISTIC TREAT

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I thought I would start the new year by sharing a little treat with you all! A new piece of art!

This is a traditional chinese dragon, why a dragon you ask?, well I live with my boyfriend so it had to be a group decision on what giant piece of artwork we put above our couch in our living room, and a dragon is what we decided on. The I love texturing my art so I used paper and modge podge to create a 3D effect that makes the piece pop.

The piece is very large, the width of all three is four feet,

the two symbols mean loyal dragon.

here is another piece I created using texture, all the negative space is elevated using magazine clippings I found interesting, it creates hidden subject only I know about and I like the idea of my art having purpose, this piece is four feet by four feet.

this piece is found in the kitchen of my parents house, all three paintings side by side are a width of around six feet wide. the design in the picture you see is made using texture, and try pastels scribbled overtop. The medium used in all of my paintings is acrylic or semi acrylic paint, I like to mix different medias together to create interest.

DIRTY POLITICS

I'm sure I did, well currently I am working on a "webisode" with Reign City productions. Director Rikki Burke has created a Vancouver based show that looks into the world of dirty politics and corrupt cops during the Vancouver 2010 winter olympics. VERY EXCITING NEWS EVERYONE

One day, A few months ago , while working at Cactus Club I met a Music Manager by the name of Gary Taylor. Out of the blue he began to chat with me, our conversation went something like this

Gary- "Are you an actress?"

Steph- "Yes"

Gary- "Are you a singer?"

Steph- "Singer, songwriter, guitar player, no biggy" (I'm cool... NAT!)

Gary- "Well I am Senior Executive VP International of Canatian Music Week and Gary Taylor MGMT. Are you any good?"

Steph- "(GULP) YES!!!!"

So we exchanged information, and he liked my stuff, Gary thought I had talent and that meant the world had opened up. Although he was all over the world working with clients, we managed to stay in contact up until the day that Gary informed me he had playing spot open at Falconettis on Commercial Drive.

The idea of playing in an intimate public setting was exciting, until then he informed me that it was not only a singing spot, it was also an audition for Canadian Music week; and, a re-occuring spot at Falconettis.

Once he told me that, it was super exciting.

Hello everyone, I have been away and therefore a terrible blogger, but I didn't just want to throw up any old blog, I want all my blogs to be super blogs for you, I want you to be treated to the blog de la blog of blogs this is why while I was in Australia I took advantage of the beautiful landscapes and let myself become inspired.

Here is an advertising campaign I put together for my college grad show.

I went to Langara and was in the display and design program, it is in interractive program in wich you learn about graphic design, interior design, three dimentional design as well as advertising,entrepreneurship,communications and art history.

For our grad show the grad class decided as a group that the theme would be "fresh" but what that meant exactly was up to us.

I chose to make "fresh" mean " a fresh take, on an old idea" because that is really what being creative is. Here is the graphic solution and rational that I came up with, we also had to draft a layout of the grad show space, and come up with timelines, a buget, media coverage advertising ideas for the show.

Above you see my "FRESH" take on a pair of shoes, an apple, a tv set and a video. But there are many different things as well you can have a fresh take on.
